INTRODUCTION:
ahcadesign.com is a website portfolio for a visual and working record of work carried out by Andrew Hope, a Product Design graduate with 8.5 years of cooperative involvement in design flow of projects or real working jobs for small to corporate scale distribution or installation. I also have been able to help create drawings for an Architect to support his work flow for residential construction work.

This website should also allow me relative freedom to pitch myself as a Freelance Designer for Creative Thinking, Creative Ideation, Design Development, technical drawing, CAD File creation, 3D printing and manufacturing support needs and more.  

 

I am trained as a BDes Hons (Consumer) Product Design graduate from Edinburgh Napier University, Scotland. My actual working experience has come through work place processes and playing a role in the design flow within a variety of industrial or planning processes.   • Process jobs through the internal SAGE system to create bespoke, stored jobs for company job tracing & engineering part nos.

  • P-no cast items, Aluminium, Copper, Brass, for Electrical Connectors for Sub-Stations and Transformer switchgear.

Warehouse 13-14, 6th Street – Al Quoz 1 (Behind Times Square Mall Dubai - Dubai - United Arab Emirates. Employed 28.05.20 – 12.06.20

  • Remotely set up (x20) Hobbyist 3D PLA Printers for a start-up sub company of Generation 3D for COVID-19 Printed Products.

  • Purchase Shelving and set up a test site for the calibration of the printers.

  • Relocate all of the racking and printers into the official site at the Mercedes F1 site in Brackley and hand over.

  • ASME standards were applicable to Piping and Flange Design in an Oil & Gas style industry with a focus on plastic recycling.

  • Learnt to use SolidEdge to design detail in the company template as well as solid model and surface enough for Heat Exchangers.

  • Injection moulded parts were manually assembled into medical pen devices. Eye for detail in high QA was extremely important.

  • Constructing a Website with business email for F/T, contracting, freelance design work or personal projects.

  • Solidworks Certification Exams to underline my CAD fluency.

  • Established a handful of small self-directed projects.

  • 3D Printing, Rapid Prototyping, Visiting Clients, contacting industrial 3D print scaling and mould design companies, costing.

 

2017-2019 - ARCHITECTS ASSISTANT – WALKER GRAHAM ARCHITECTS LTD    www.walkergraham.co.uk   44 South Bar, Banbury, Oxfordshire, OX16 9AB (Office). Employment: 13.02.2017 to 25.01.2019. Reason for Leaving: Made Redundant for a qualified Architect friend.                

  • Implement Architects site surveys into Floor Plans & Elevations in AutoCAD for residential & some larger planning applications.

  • Create 3D models of projects for rendering in SketchUp for clients.

  • At times go to site to help measure a site, aid in other documentation for the planning process and experiment with Revit.

  • I was responsible for taking messages for the Architect and relaying information over vie email record or by telephone.

 

2016-2017 - PART-TIME WAITER – PIZZA EXPRESS, 39 High St, Banbury OX16 5ET Banbury – 9 months. RfL: Work for Walker Graham Arch.

  • Customer facing role, serving Pizzas to children to adults in a warm and friendly manor. Cleaning the restaurant down at night.

  • Design Engineer using Solidworks 2016 processing jobs in the department work flow & taking direction from the Design Manager.

  • Work on bespoke projects for Dishwasher tables, tablings, Hot cupboards and gantries in Sheet Metal fabrication.

  • Would liaise with shop floor personnel to check over issues and update accordingly on press brake or turret puncher.

 

2015 - JUNIOR CONTAINER & MOULD DESIGNER – OWENS ILLINIOS (O-I)                              www.o-i.com  Edinburgh Way, Harlow, Essex, CM20 2DB. Employment: 28.05.2014 to 16.04.2015. Reason for Leaving: Made Redundant.                                              

  • I actively contributed to Surfacing and Solid modelling in ProE/Creo for container glass (beer, spirit, NAB bottles) mould files and drawings creation in a Mould Design Team throughout my time there.

  • I received training in NPD, Container Design Team, to make Professional Adobe Photoshop and Adobe illustrator Presentations.

  • Taking direction from the Material Handling Design Manager I used CATIA V5 to model trolleys/dollys/racking systems.

  • Attended meetings with Senior Ford Engineers to design a prototype Tote Kit Box for Ford Valencia, successfully implemented.

  • Handling Ford CAD files with due care and diligence.

 

2013 - PHOTOGRAPHER - RAPID FOCUS PHOTOGRAPHY LTD                                                                         Lee Valley White Water Centre, Station Road, Waltham Cross, Herts EN9 1AB. Employment: Aug to Nov 2013. Reason for Leaving. New Job.           

  • A customer facing role where would use a camera to take sports pictures and video files of a white-water rafting experience.

  • I worked in a team to process the files to the team in the café who would sort and edit files on an Applemac for a DVD purchase.

  • I took direction from the Design Manager to Design Detail Automotive assembly jig and fixtures for in house CNC manufacture.

  • It was a precision engineering environment. The assembled jigs & fixtures were quality controlled before being supplied to production lines internationally for FORD, NISSAN and JAGUAR LAND ROVER car plants.

  • I used CATIA V5 during this role and I contributed to a Lifting Hook for JLR and hole covers.

  • I was responsible for maximising the play value and energy of sales presentations to win work in a competitive play market using AutoCAD and 3D Studio Max. I translated briefs for budgets of up to £100,000 for this World No.1 play company.

Unit 9A Triangle Bus. Park, Wendover Road, Stoke Mandeville, HP22 5BL. Employment: 01.03.2010 to 01.02.2012. RfL: Company Insolvency.

  • Solidworks 2010 was used in a Playground equipment environment which needed to conform to EN1176 & EN1177 standards.

  • The company had a shop floor for weld fabrication, grinding, cutting, assembly & a local powder coaters was used.

  • AutoCAD was used for simple foundation plans for the installation teams.

  • 3D Studio Max & Adobe Photoshop was used for 3D Playground Presentation Posters in order to win a tender job.

  • The company sell third party equipment which it has now gone on to do as it has regained RoSPA certification from insolvency.

 

2008 – 2010 – VARIOUS TEMP ROLES

  • Customer Services Representative for Business Accounts – VODAFONE

  • Assembly Operative – HBPO

  • Hospitality Staff – DEDDINGTON ARMS

 

2008 – 2008 – HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, ZAMBIA.

  • Self-funded as well as Fund raised the sum to participate in the trip and the build cost.

  • Team of 9 from the UK few out to Lusaka and travelled to Kaoma District.

  • Built two basic houses in the period of weeks working with the local Zambian House Builders and Owners.

  • Safari and Hostel experience at the end to enjoy some of the Native Zambian Wildlife.

 

2007 – 2008 – ASSEMBLY OPERATIVE – HBPO

  • Learn how to follow a Bill of Materials from BMW head office in a Fax format.

  • Assemble parts on a Mixed part assembly line to produce 60 Front Bumper Modules per Hour.

HOBBIES & INTERESTS:

Kayaking in the past in the UK and Europe, recently walking some Munroe’s, Mountain Biking in the past, Drawing, Photography, Creative courses, Charity work, learning more about Design, 3D Printing. Aiming on working on my online portfolio content.
